Tony Hawk's Project 8 (2006) was a turning point for the franchise. It swapped the goofy, slapstick tone of the Underground and Wastedland years for a more realistic, "pro skater" vibe. For players on the Xbox 360, it represented the first true leap into high-definition skating.

Project 8 is widely considered one of the hardest games to emulate perfectly because of its physics engine.
