Daryl is rescued and treated at the Abbey of St. Bernadette by a nun named Isabelle, part of the Union of Hope . There, he meets Laurent , a highly intelligent orphan the nuns believe is a "Messiah" destined to lead humanity's revival.

Daryl meets a young woman named Maribel and her grandfather, but their peaceful encounter is interrupted by Guerriers (soldiers of the Pouvoir des Vivants paramilitary group).
