During a June 2022 financial results briefing, Square Enix President Yosuke Matsuda stated that the Just Cause IP remained with the company after its sale of other Western studios and that they were "at work developing a new title in the franchise".
The project appears to have been canceled in mid-to-late 2023 , shortly after the cancellation of the separate Just Cause Mobile title.
